Ultrasounds at your own request
With every new pregnancy a special time begins in your life. For most this is a joyous experience but for others it can be a time of anxiety and uncertainty. For example, if it has been difficult for you to conceive or you have had a miscarriage before. It can be reassuring to have options to check on your baby’s development during the early stages of your pregnancy. At Focus Midwifery Centre you can request an ultrasound at any stage of your pregnancy. You may book an early ultrasound to check on the baby’s heartbeat or at a later stage to check the sex or even to see your baby move thanks to 3D technology.
Remember that with every ultrasound we may have unexpected findings. We do not look with a medical eye at the fun ultrasounds, but if we notice something we will name it and, if desired, inform your midwife about this.
Fees
Ultrasounds by request are not covered by your health insurance and costs are payable prior to the examination.
What is a 3D/4D ultrasound
Would you like to see your baby move live on screen and really get an impression of what he or she will look like? Then make an appointment for a 3D / 4D ultrasound (by request).
Once the 2D ultrasound has provided an image of the baby and its position is much clearer, a 3D ultrasound adds extra colour to the ‘side view’. The image is then in 3D, which means length, width and depth. A 2D ultrasound gives a ‘transparent’ view of your baby while a 3D ultrasound provides an image from various angles. So anything positioned in front of the baby’s face can be seen here. Combining the 3D images with a 4D ultrasound results in ‘moving’ 3D images. This allows you to watch your baby ‘live’. The best time to schedule this special experience is between 25 - 29 weeks (28 - 29 weeks preferred). Please keep in mind that the quality of the images always depends on the location of the baby and the placenta. We prefer to carry out these ultrasounds when your bladder is full. This will benefit the quality of the images.
Before the ultrasound you can purchase a USB stick which allows you to take home both the images and video.
